Turf Care

The following is recommended by Associated Turf.

Laying of Turf:

  • Start at a straight line such as a drive or walk way
  • Layout the rolls as you would a rug to tiles
  • Make sure that all joints are butted tightly together without overlapping or spaces between strips of turf
  • Stagger the joints in each row like rows of bricks
  • Use a large knife for shaping turf around trees, flowerbeds or borders
  • Roll the grass to smooth out small bumps and air pockets, but rolling is not necessary as it will eventually settle
  • Completely soak the turf with at least 1" of water - start watering 20 minutes after first strip is laid

Watering your Turf:

  • Watering everyday for 2 to 3 weeks is most necessary.

Soil:

  • A good coverage of top soil is recommended to be paced under the turf.  There is no need to top dress your turf. Top soil is only needed to fill in the gaps
  • Do not fertilise the soil as this can sometimes burn the turf from underneath

Fertilising:

  • Your turf is already fertilised when you receive it.  Fertilise your turf at least twice a year, once in the spring and again towards the end of summer.  We recommend as a fertiliser "Shirley #17"
  • Make sure you water your fertiliser in well as it may burn the turf if you don't

Mowing:

  • Usually you will need to mow your turf approximately 10 - 14 days after laying.  In the winter it may take a little longer.  For the first mow, place your setting on the highest so that you just take the top of.

Sprays:

  • Be careful what you use on your turf - always read instructions carefully before use.
