How Our Grass Delivery Gets a Lawn to Your Door
Seeding a lawn means months of patchy soil, bird-picked seed and careful watering before you can walk on it. Our grass delivery service skips all of that. We grow the grass ourselves on the Cornwallis Flats at Windsor, where the Hawkesbury River has left deep alluvial soil, and we cut each order into ready-to-lay rolls only once your delivery day is booked.
Because nothing is stockpiled, the rolls reach you moist and green, with a layer of soil and roots still attached. Small orders arrive ready to carry into the yard, and bigger jobs come stacked on pallets. All you need is a prepared patch of ground and a free afternoon to lay it.
In short: Associated Turf is a Windsor turf farm that has grown buffalo, Kikuyu and couch for more than 45 years and delivers fresh rolls across the Hawkesbury Monday to Saturday. Most turf costs about $9 to $18 per m², depending on variety, area and delivery distance. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- A finished look from the day it is laid
- Dense, mature grass with roots attached
- Less dust, mud and erosion on new sites
- Usable far sooner than a seeded lawn
Grass Delivery for Pitt Town and Ebenezer Homes
Properties around Pitt Town and Ebenezer tend to be bigger than suburban blocks, with long driveways, rural fencing and lawns that wrap around the house. Many owners want grass that copes with hot summer afternoons, the odd frosty morning near the river and a fair bit of foot traffic from kids, dogs and visitors. Getting a delivery onto these blocks also takes some planning, because a soft paddock or a narrow gate can make the last few metres harder than the drive from the farm.
We start every order by asking how the lawn will be used and how much sun it gets, then point you to the right grass from our six varieties. You can compare our turf varieties before you decide. Once the quote is confirmed we book a harvest and delivery day together, cut the grass as close to it as we can, and drop it where it is easiest for you to lay. Larger lawns can be delivered on pallets, and our own team can lay it if you would rather not.
- Variety advice matched to sun, frost and wear
- Delivery planned around gates, driveways and soft ground
- Optional laying by our own team
What Your Grass Delivery Can Include
Each delivery is put together for your block, so you only pay for what the job needs. Some customers want a few rolls dropped by the shed, while others need several pallets and a crew to lay them. These are the options we can add to your order when you ask for a quote.
- Choice of grass: Matilda, Sir Walter, Shademaster, Kikuyu, Greenlees Park or Wintergreen
- Cut to order: harvested for your delivery day and never stockpiled
- Pallet delivery: for bigger areas and easier unloading
- Farm pick-up: collect from Windsor if you have a suitable trailer
- Laying service: our own team can lay the grass for you
- Maxi Turf rolls: 1.2 m by 12 m rolls laid by machine for large open areas
Getting Grass onto Large Rural Blocks Near the River
The most common delivery hurdle we see on semi-rural blocks is access. Long gravel driveways, cattle grids and tight farm gates can limit where a loaded vehicle can safely go, and after heavy rain the ground near the river can turn soft enough to bog a truck. When that happens, the grass may need to be dropped closer to the road and moved by barrow, which adds work on laying day.
Weight is the second issue. Fresh grass typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre depending on moisture, so even a modest lawn adds up to a heavy load. Planning where pallets will sit, and how you will move rolls from there, saves a lot of effort.
The third is timing. On big lawns it can take a full day or more to lay everything, and rolls left stacked in the sun dry out quickly. We help you size each drop so every roll goes down while it is still fresh.
- Drop point agreed before delivery day
- Advice on handling heavy pallets
- Orders sized so rolls are laid while fresh
How Much Does Grass Delivery Cost Around the Hawkesbury?
Most of the grass we grow costs about $9 to $18 per square metre when you buy direct from our farm. Kikuyu and couch sit toward the lower end of that range, and soft leaf buffalo varieties sit at the top. Delivery distance from Windsor plays a part, and larger areas usually attract a lower rate per square metre. If you would like our team to lay it, installation is quoted on top based on area, preparation and access.
For a price on your exact area and address, send us your measurements and we will put together a quote.
- Variety: buffalo costs more than Kikuyu or couch
- Area: bigger orders get a lower rate per m²
- Distance: travel from our Windsor farm to you
- Supply or supply and lay: laying is quoted separately
Why Freshly Cut Grass Needs to Go Down Fast
Rolled-up grass is still alive, but it can’t feed itself properly while it sits in a stack. In warm weather the centre of a pallet heats up and the outer rolls dry out, so fresh turf should be laid on the day it arrives, especially in summer. That is the main reason we cut every order for a set delivery day rather than keeping a stockpile.
Once it is down and watered, fresh turf usually starts rooting within about two weeks in warm weather. New grass needs regular watering for the first few weeks while those roots grow into the soil below. Seasons matter too. Couch and Kikuyu can go dormant and straw-coloured in frosty winters, while soft leaf buffalo holds its colour better, which is worth knowing if you are laying in autumn.
How Associated Turf Handles Your Grass Delivery
From the first phone call to the last roll coming off the truck, you deal with the same farm team. Here is how a typical delivery runs, whether you are covering a small side yard or a whole acreage lawn.
- Measure and choose. Send us your area and tell us about sun, shade and use so we can recommend a grass.
- Confirm the day. We lock in your price and book a delivery day from Monday to Saturday that suits your laying plans.
- Harvest at Windsor. Your grass is cut on our farm as close to delivery as possible, so it stays moist and green.
- Drop and lay. We unload where agreed, on pallets for bigger jobs, and lay it for you if you have booked installation.
Preparing Hawkesbury Soil Before Your Grass Arrives
The best delivery in the world won’t help if the ground underneath is not ready. On many Hawkesbury properties, old lawns have been driven over for years and the soil is packed hard. New grass laid on compacted ground struggles to send roots down, and water runs straight off rather than soaking in.
Levels are another common issue. Paddock-style yards often have dips, ruts and high spots that become obvious once a new lawn goes down, and low patches can hold water after rain. A light layer of quality underlay soil, raked smooth, fixes both problems and gives the roots something to grip.
Finally, there is the weather on the day. Hot westerly afternoons can stress fresh rolls within hours, so laying early in the day and watering as you go makes a real difference. Our turf preparation guide walks through each step, and we are always happy to talk it over by phone before your delivery.
- Loosen compacted soil before delivery day
- Level with quality underlay soil
- Lay early and water as you go

Frequently Asked Questions About Grass Delivery in the Hawkesbury
Here are straight answers to the questions people ask before booking a delivery from our Windsor farm.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
What days do you offer grass delivery?
Our grass delivery runs Monday to Saturday from our farm at Windsor. We book a day that suits you when we confirm your quote, then cut the grass as close to that day as possible. If you would rather collect it yourself, farm pick-up is open Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm.
How much grass should I order?
Measure the length and width of each area in metres and multiply them to get square metres, then add the areas together. Send us those figures with a rough sketch if the shape is unusual. We will check the numbers with you and suggest a sensible amount so you are not left short on laying day.
Do I need to be home for my grass delivery?
Not always, as long as we have agreed on a safe drop point and the driver can reach it. It does help to be there, though, because fresh rolls should be laid on the day they arrive. If you can't be home, have the ground prepared so you can start laying as soon as you return.
Can grass delivery be made on pallets?
Yes. For bigger jobs we deliver on pallets, which keeps the rolls together and makes unloading quicker. Pallets are heavy, since fresh grass typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre, so let us know about soft ground, slopes or narrow gates when you book your grass delivery.
Which grass is best for a family lawn?
It depends on sun and use. Kikuyu is hardy, fast-repairing and suits full sun, while Matilda and Sir Walter soft leaf buffalo thrive with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun and keep their colour better in winter. Tell us about your yard and we will recommend a variety.
How soon can I walk on newly delivered grass?
Keep foot traffic light while the roots establish. In warm weather fresh turf usually starts rooting within about two weeks, and it needs regular watering for the first few weeks. Once you can't lift the edge of a roll easily, the lawn is ready for gentle everyday use.
Can your team lay the grass after delivery?
Yes. Our own team can supply and lay the grass, with installation quoted on top of the turf price based on area, preparation and access. For very large open areas we also offer Maxi Turf rolls, which are laid by machine for fewer joins and need easy machine access.
