Planning a New Lawn Package in Sydney Around Your Project
In Sydney, a new lawn usually comes at the end of something bigger: a new house, a pool, an extension or a full backyard makeover. By then the ground has often been driven over, dug up and left with rubble, and everyone is keen to see grass. Rushing the lawn at this point is a common mistake, because a poor base shows up within the first summer.
Our package slows that last step down just enough to get it right. We look at the ground, agree on preparation and choose a variety, then cut and lay the turf when the yard is genuinely ready.
In short: Associated Turf grows turf at Windsor and creates new lawns for Sydney homes after builds and renovations. Turf is about $9 to $18 per square metre, with laying quoted on top depending on area, preparation, access and delivery distance. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- Turf and installation in one quote
- Harvest timed to your installation day
- One business responsible for the result
- Aftercare advice once the job is complete
New Lawn Packages for Sydney Homes in Campbelltown and the Hills
In Campbelltown and Leumeah, many families are adding pools, granny flats and extensions to established homes, which often leaves the backyard torn up and in need of a complete new lawn. In the Hills District, new and rebuilt homes on larger sloping blocks face a different set of challenges, including shade from tall trees and two-storey houses. In both areas, the lawn is usually the last piece of a much bigger project, and it deserves the same planning as the rest.
Our new lawn package starts with the state of the ground after the trades have left. We help you work out what needs clearing and preparing, suggest a variety for your light and use, and harvest it at Windsor to suit your laying day. Our own crew lays the turf, and you receive clear instructions for the first weeks. See how our turf supply and install service works, or send us photos of your yard.
- Lawn planning timed around builds and renovations
- Variety matched to slope, shade and use
- Clear care steps for the first few weeks
What Your Sydney New Lawn Package Can Include
The package covers every stage from damaged or bare ground to a lawn your family can use. You choose which parts we handle and which you or your builder will do, and each one is listed clearly in your quote.
- Site review: checking ground left behind by builders or excavation
- Ground preparation: loosening, underlay soil and levelling
- Variety advice: options for sun, shade, slopes and wear
- Fresh turf: cut at Windsor and delivered Monday to Saturday
- Laying: installed by our own crew on arrival
- Establishment plan: watering and first-mow guidance
Lawns After Pools and Extensions in Campbelltown and Leumeah
When a pool, granny flat or extension goes in, the backyard usually becomes the builders’ access route. Excavators, bobcats and loaded wheelbarrows compact the soil, spoil from digging gets spread around, and bits of concrete or brick end up buried just below the surface. The finished yard can look flat and tidy while hiding a base that no lawn will thrive on.
Campbelltown and Leumeah also see long, hot summers. A new lawn laid over compacted, rubble-filled ground dries out quickly because water runs off rather than soaking in, and roots stay shallow. That combination is behind many lawns that look good for a month and then fade.
Before we lay, we talk through clearing debris, loosening the soil, adding underlay and levelling around new paving, pool fencing and paths. If you want us to include that work, it goes in the quote. We then time your harvest so the turf goes down once the trades have finished for good.
- Advice on clearing rubble and compacted soil
- Levelling around new paving and pool areas
- Laying timed for after the trades have left
How Much Does a New Lawn Package Cost in Sydney?
Farm-direct turf usually sits between about $9 and $18 per square metre. Kikuyu and couch are the lower-cost choices, while soft leaf buffalo is at the top of the range. Laying is quoted on top, and after a build the preparation needed is often the biggest variable, along with the area, site access and delivery distance from Windsor. Larger lawns generally receive a lower rate per square metre.
For a figure based on your yard, contact us for a new lawn quote and include a few photos.
- Variety: buffalo costs more than Kikuyu or couch
- Ground condition: rubble, compaction or levelling adds work
- Delivery: priced on distance from Windsor to your suburb
- Area and access: bigger lawns cost less per square metre
How a Freshly Laid Lawn Becomes an Established One
A new lawn goes through a short but important settling-in period. Fresh turf should be laid on the day it arrives, especially in hot weather, because rolled grass cannot feed itself properly. That is one reason we cut every order to suit the laying day instead of stockpiling.
After laying, the roots need to grow down into the prepared soil. In warm weather that usually begins within about two weeks, provided the lawn is watered regularly for the first few weeks. Laying in cooler months is possible too, though couch and Kikuyu go dormant or straw-coloured in frosty winters while soft leaf buffalo holds its colour better. Our turf care and watering pages cover the routine in more depth.
How Associated Turf Creates a New Lawn for Your Sydney Home
We guide you through four stages so your new lawn fits neatly into the end of your project. You always know what comes next and when your turf will be cut and laid.
- Review the ground. We look at photos or details of the yard as the builders leave it.
- Agree on preparation. We confirm clearing, loosening, underlay and levelling, and who will do each part.
- Cut and lay. Your chosen variety is harvested at Windsor and laid by our crew on arrival.
- Guide the first weeks. We give you a watering and first-mow plan to help it establish.
Tall Trees and Sloping Blocks Across the Hills District
The Hills District is known for leafy streets, larger homes and blocks that rise and fall with the land. Those features make for attractive properties but tricky lawns. Tall trees and two-storey homes shade parts of the yard for much of the day, and grasses that need full sun thin out quickly beneath them. Matilda and Sir Walter thrive with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun, and Shademaster is up to 85% shade tolerant, which opens up options for darker areas.
Slopes bring water problems. Rain and irrigation run downhill before soaking in, so the top of a lawn can dry out while the bottom stays damp. Careful levelling, terracing where needed and a good underlay soil help even this out, and new turf should be laid across the slope.
Tree roots compete for water too, so lawns near large trees may need extra watering during establishment. We factor all of this into your package.
- Shade-tolerant buffalo for tree-covered yards
- Preparation advice for sloping blocks
- Watering guidance where trees compete for moisture

Frequently Asked Questions About a New Lawn Package in Sydney
Finishing a build or renovation and ready for grass? Here are answers to the questions Sydney homeowners ask before booking a new lawn with us.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
What does a new lawn package Sydney homeowners book with you include?
A new lawn package Sydney homeowners book with Associated Turf includes a review of the ground, advice on preparation, a variety suited to the yard, fresh turf cut at our Windsor farm and laying by our own crew. You also receive a watering and first-mow plan. Each part is listed clearly in your quote.
When should I book my lawn during a build or renovation?
Get in touch once you have a rough finish date. That gives us time to plan preparation and book a harvest. The turf should only be laid after the heavy trades have finished, because machinery and foot traffic can damage a fresh lawn.
Is a sloping block a problem when laying a new lawn?
Yes. Slopes need careful levelling and a good underlay so water spreads evenly, and turf is laid across the slope to help it settle. Watering may need adjusting so the top of the lawn does not dry out faster than the bottom.
What if there is rubble buried in my yard?
Buried concrete, brick and other debris should be removed before laying, as it stops roots growing and creates dry patches. We will explain what the base needs. If our crew finds extra debris on the day, we talk to you before doing any additional work.
Which grass suits a shaded Sydney yard?
Matilda and Sir Walter Soft Leaf Buffalo thrive with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun. Shademaster is up to 85% shade tolerant for very shaded areas. For sunny, high-wear spots, Kikuyu is hardy and repairs quickly. We help you choose the right fit.
How soon can my family use the new lawn?
In warm weather, turf usually begins rooting within about two weeks. Keep traffic light until a corner resists a gentle lift, then gradually increase use. Water regularly for the first few weeks, as described in the guidance that comes with every new lawn package.
Do you work with builders on new home lawns?
Yes. We supply and lay for builders, developers and landscapers as well as homeowners. Trade and project pricing is available, and we can stage harvests across multi-month builds so each new lawn package is ready to go down when that home is.
