Many new homes around Liverpool and Austral are handed over with a yard that looks finished but sits on compacted fill or heavy clay. Excavators, trucks and delivery vehicles have driven across it for months, and the original topsoil is often gone. Kikuyu is hardy, suits full sun and repairs quickly from wear. Penrith regularly records some of the hottest summer days in the region, and those conditions are hard on freshly laid turf. Rolls that sit in the sun for even a short time can scorch, and a new lawn can dry out within a day if it is not watered well.
