What Our Customers Say About Us
Why a Turf Installation Company That Grows Its Own Turf Matters
Most lawn jobs involve at least two businesses: someone who grows the grass and someone else who puts it down. When something goes wrong, each can point at the other. Associated Turf removes that gap. We grow every roll in our own paddocks on the Cornwallis Flats at Windsor, and the same farm team that harvests your turf also installs it.
That single line of responsibility is the main reason people choose us as their turf installation company. We know exactly when your turf was cut, how it was handled and how long it sat before going down, because we did all of it. There are no resellers, no stockpiles and no guesswork about freshness.
In short: Associated Turf is a Windsor turf farm that grows and installs buffalo, Kikuyu and couch across the Hawkesbury. Most farm-direct turf costs about $9 to $18 per m², with installation quoted on top based on area, preparation and access. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- Turf grown on our own Windsor farm
- Harvest and installation planned together
- One business accountable for the result
- More than 45 years in the turf industry
Trusted Turf Installation Company in Windsor and Wilberforce
Around Windsor and out towards Wilberforce, lawns cover everything from compact town blocks near the river to acreage paddocks and rural house yards. Many of these properties sit on soils that have built up on the Hawkesbury flats, while others sit on harder ground that has been compacted by vehicles and stock over the years. A lawn here has to cope with summer heat, frosty winter mornings and plenty of wear, so the installation needs to be done properly from the base up.
As a turf installation company that also farms, we start by looking at your ground and how the lawn will be used, then suggest a variety from our own paddocks. We schedule the harvest for your laying day, deliver on our own timetable and install the turf with our farm team. Good results begin below the surface, so read our turf preparation guide to see how we get the ground ready before a single roll goes down.
- One business from harvest to final roll
- Ground checked and prepared before laying
- Varieties chosen to suit your block and use
What Our Turf Installation Service Can Include
Every job is quoted around the site, not a fixed package. Some customers want us to handle the lot, while others prepare the ground themselves and only need the turf cut and laid. These are the parts of an installation we can take care of for you.
- Site assessment: a look at access, soil, levels and drainage
- Variety selection: buffalo, Kikuyu or couch matched to sun and wear
- Ground preparation: loosening compacted soil, underlay soil and levelling
- Fresh harvest: turf cut at our Windsor farm for your laying day
- Installation: rolls laid tight by our own farm team
- Aftercare advice: watering and first-mow guidance to help it root
How Hawkesbury River Flat Ground Affects Turf Installation
The Cornwallis Flats and the low country around Wilberforce owe their rich alluvial soil to the Hawkesbury River. That soil is a big reason our turf grows so dense, but it also means properties near the river can hold water after heavy rain. Laying on ground that is saturated or rutted leaves soft spots and uneven levels that show up for years.
Winter is the second factor. Cold air pools on the river flats, and frosty mornings slow growth. Couch and Kikuyu go dormant or straw-coloured in a frosty winter, while soft leaf buffalo holds its colour better, so the season you install in can shape which variety we suggest.
Finally, many rural blocks have patches compacted by cars, trailers or livestock. Turf laid straight onto hard ground struggles to send roots down. We loosen and level that base first, add underlay soil where it is needed, and only install once the ground is ready to take the turf.
- Installation timed around wet ground and rain
- Variety advice for frosty river flat winters
- Compacted patches loosened before laying
How Much Does a Turf Installation Company Charge in Windsor?
Because we grow the turf ourselves, there is no reseller margin built into your price. In most cases, turf supplied direct from the farm costs about $9 to $18 per square metre. Kikuyu and couch are the economical end of the range; soft leaf buffalo is the top end. Installation is quoted on top of the turf, based on the size of the area, the preparation needed and how easy the site is to access.
For a figure based on your actual block, contact our installation team and we will put together a free quote.
- Variety: soft leaf buffalo costs more than Kikuyu or couch
- Area: larger jobs usually get a lower rate per square metre
- Preparation: compacted or uneven ground takes more work
- Access and distance: travel from Windsor and how easily we reach the lawn
What Happens to Turf Between Harvest and Installation
Turf is a living crop, and the hours between cutting and laying matter. Rolled turf cannot feed itself properly, so fresh turf should be laid on the day it arrives, especially in hot weather. It is the reason we cut only to order and never keep stockpiles.
Fresh turf typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre, depending on moisture, so even a modest lawn adds up to a heavy load that needs careful handling. Once installed on prepared ground, fresh turf usually starts rooting within about two weeks in warm weather, provided it gets regular watering for the first few weeks.
After each harvest, a paddock typically needs around 10 to 18 months to regrow. Planning ahead lets us match your installation date with paddocks that are ready to cut.
How Associated Turf Installs Your New Lawn
Because we control the turf and the labour, we can line up every stage so nothing waits around. Here is how a typical installation runs from first call to finished lawn.
- Assess the site. We discuss your area, access, soil and sunlight and recommend a variety.
- Prepare the ground. Compacted soil is loosened, underlay soil added and the surface levelled.
- Harvest to order. Your turf is cut at our Windsor farm as close as possible to the installation date.
- Install and water. Our team lays the rolls tight and leaves you with a clear watering plan.
Installing Turf on Wilberforce Acreage and Large Open Areas
Wilberforce and the surrounding rural roads have plenty of large house yards, paddock edges and open areas where a standard roll-by-roll lay can take a long time. On these jobs, the number of joins becomes a real concern, because every seam is a spot that can dry out before the turf knits together.
For big open spaces with easy machine access, we offer Maxi Turf. These rolls are 1.2 metres wide by 12 metres long and are laid by machine, which means fewer joins and faster establishment. The same system is used on ovals, parks, sporting fields, golf courses and school grounds.
Access is the deciding factor. Machine-laid rolls need a clear path for equipment, firm ground and enough room to turn. Where that is not possible, standard rolls laid by hand are the better choice. We will look at your property and tell you plainly which option suits the job.
- Maxi Turf rolls for large open areas
- Fewer joins and faster establishment
- Honest advice on machine access

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Turf Installation Company in Windsor
Here are straight answers to the questions people ask before booking a turf installation with our Windsor farm team.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
Why choose a turf installation company that grows its own turf?
A turf installation company that grows its own turf controls the whole chain. At Associated Turf, the same team harvests your rolls at Windsor and installs them, so there is no reseller and no stockpiled turf. If anything needs attention, you deal with one business that knows exactly how your turf was grown and handled.
Do you prepare the ground before installing?
Yes, preparation can be part of your quote. We loosen compacted soil, add underlay soil and level the surface before laying. If you would rather do the preparation yourself, we can supply guidance and quote for supply and installation only. Good preparation is the biggest factor in how well new turf roots.
Which turf varieties can you install?
We install every variety we grow: Matilda, Sir Walter and Shademaster Soft Leaf Buffalo, Kikuyu, Greenlees Park Couch and Wintergreen Couch. Matilda and Sir Walter thrive with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun, Shademaster is up to 85% shade tolerant, and Kikuyu suits hardy, full-sun areas.
How quickly will my new lawn take root?
Fresh turf tends to root within about two weeks once the weather warms up. Getting there takes regular watering for the first few weeks. Cooler months slow things down, and couch and Kikuyu may go dormant or straw-coloured in frosty weather, while soft leaf buffalo holds its colour better.
Does a turf installation company handle large areas?
Yes. As well as standard rolls, our turf installation company offers Maxi Turf, which comes in rolls 1.2 m wide by 12 m long and is laid by machine. It suits ovals, parks, sporting fields, golf courses, schools and acreage, provided the site has easy machine access.
What days do you deliver and install?
Delivery runs Monday to Saturday, and installation is booked to match your harvest day. If you prefer to lay the turf yourself, farm pick-up is available Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm. Call 1800 044 006 to check availability for your preferred date.
How do I get a quote for turf installation?
Call 1800 044 006 or send your measurements and address through our contact page. Tell us about access, the current ground and the variety you are considering. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day, and installation is priced on area, site preparation and access.
