What Customers Say About Our Team
How Our Turf Laying Service Works from Paddock to Yard
Most lawn jobs involve at least two businesses: one that sells the turf and another that lays it. Our turf laying service removes that hand-off. Associated Turf has grown natural turf on the Cornwallis Flats at Windsor for more than 45 years, and the same farm team that cuts your rolls also brings them to site and puts them down.
That matters because cut turf is a living product with a short window. When the people harvesting it also control the laying day, your rolls are not left sitting on a pallet in the sun while two schedules line up. You get one quote, one booking and one phone number for the whole job.
In short: Associated Turf is a Windsor turf farm that harvests, delivers and lays buffalo, Kikuyu and couch for Hawkesbury homes and sites. Turf is about $9 to $18 per m² depending on variety, with laying quoted on top based on area, preparation and access. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- One quote for turf, delivery and laying
- Harvest timed to your laying day
- A single point of contact from start to finish
- Watering and first mow advice when the job is done
Trusted Turf Laying Service in Pitt Town and Ebenezer
Pitt Town has changed a lot in recent years, with new estates sitting alongside older homes and market gardens, while Ebenezer is still mostly larger rural blocks along the river. Both areas share the same challenge: a lawn has to cope with hot summers, frosty mornings on low ground and soils that shift from river silt to heavier clay within a few streets. Laying turf properly in those conditions takes more than unrolling it and turning on the hose.
Our approach is simple. We visit or talk through your site, recommend a variety that suits your light and use, and then cut your turf as close as possible to laying. Our own team handles the delivery and laying, so the grass goes from paddock to ground in the shortest possible time. Before booking, read our guide to turf preparation so you know what the base needs, or ask us to quote the preparation as part of the job.
- Turf harvested close to laying day
- One team for harvest, delivery and laying
- Variety advice for river flats and clay blocks
What Your Turf Laying Service Can Include
No two jobs are quite the same, so we build each booking around your yard and how much of the work you want to do yourself. Some customers prepare the ground and leave the laying to us, while others want the whole job handled. These are the parts we can cover.
- Site check: measurements, access and light assessed before quoting
- Variety selection: buffalo, Kikuyu or couch matched to your yard
- Harvest to order: rolls cut fresh for your laying day
- Delivery: brought from Windsor on our own trucks, Monday to Saturday
- Laying: rolls placed tight, cut neatly around edges and paths
- Aftercare advice: a clear watering plan for the first few weeks
Frost and Wet Ground on the Pitt Town Flats
Much of Pitt Town and Ebenezer sits close to the river, and low-lying yards behave differently from those on the ridges. Cold air drains into hollows overnight, so frost settles on the flats earlier and lingers longer than it does a few kilometres away. Couch and Kikuyu laid in these spots will often turn straw-coloured through winter, while soft leaf buffalo tends to hold its colour better.
Wet ground is the second issue. After heavy rain, some flat blocks stay soft for days, and laying onto saturated soil leaves the surface uneven once it dries and settles. Machinery and wheelbarrows can also rut a soggy yard badly. When conditions are like this, we would rather move your laying day than put turf down on ground that will let it down later.
The third point is drainage itself. Where water pools after storms, a little extra underlay soil and careful levelling can make a real difference to how the new lawn performs.
- Variety advice for frosty, low-lying yards
- Laying days moved if ground is too wet
- Levelling to reduce pooling after storms
How Much Does a Turf Laying Service Cost in the Hawkesbury?
Your quote has two parts: the turf itself and the labour to lay it. Most turf straight from the paddock is about $9 to $18 per square metre, Kikuyu and couch being the most affordable and soft leaf buffalo the most expensive. Laying is quoted on top, based on the size of the area, how much preparation the site needs and how easy it is to get rolls from the truck to the yard. Larger areas generally come in at a lower rate per square metre.
For a figure based on your actual yard, send us your measurements and address.
- Variety: buffalo costs more than Kikuyu or couch
- Area: bigger lawns usually get a lower rate per m²
- Preparation: removing old grass or levelling adds time
- Access: steps, narrow sides and long carries affect labour
Why the Clock Starts Ticking Once Turf Is Cut
A roll of turf is still alive after harvest, but it can’t feed itself properly while it is rolled up and stacked. That is why fresh turf should be laid on the day it arrives, especially in hot weather, and why we cut to order rather than holding stock.
Weight is another reason laying is worth handing over. Fresh turf typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre depending on moisture, so even a modest backyard means moving a serious load by hand.
Once the turf is down and watered, it usually starts rooting within about two weeks in warm weather. Regular watering through those first few weeks is what turns a newly laid lawn into an established one, and we leave every customer with a simple plan to follow.
How Associated Turf Delivers a Turf Laying Job
From the first call to the last roll, the same farm team stays with your job. Here is how a typical booking runs, whether it is a small front yard in Pitt Town or a larger lawn on an Ebenezer property.
- Measure and recommend. We confirm your area, access and light, then suggest the best variety for the site.
- Prepare the base. You prepare the ground using our checklist, or we quote the preparation as part of the job.
- Harvest to order. Your turf is cut at Windsor as close to laying as possible and loaded straight onto our truck.
- Lay and water. We lay the rolls tight with neat edges, give the lawn its first soak and talk you through watering.
Long Driveways and Big Lawns on Ebenezer Properties
Rural blocks around Ebenezer bring a different set of problems from suburban yards. Lawns are often much larger, house paddocks can stretch well away from the driveway, and the trip from truck to laying area can be long and uneven. Moving pallets of heavy turf across that distance by hand is slow work, and every hour turf spends waiting in the sun reduces its freshness.
Soil is the next consideration. Some acreage house yards were built up with imported fill, while others sit on natural ground that has been compacted by vehicles for years. Both need loosening and levelling before laying, or the new lawn will struggle to root evenly.
For very large open areas with easy machine access, Maxi Turf can be a better option. These rolls are 1.2 m wide and 12 m long and are laid by machine, which means fewer joins and faster establishment. We can tell you during the quote whether your property suits it.

- Advice on compacted or filled house yards
- Maxi Turf option where machines can access

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Turf Laying Service in Windsor and the Hawkesbury
Here are straight answers to the questions people ask before booking us to lay their new lawn.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
What does your turf laying service include?
Our turf laying service covers choosing a variety, cutting your rolls fresh at our Windsor farm, delivering them and laying them neatly on your prepared ground. We finish with a first watering and a simple aftercare plan. Site preparation can be added to the quote if you would rather not do it yourself.
Do I need to prepare the ground before you arrive?
The ground must be ready before turf goes down, which means loosening compacted soil, adding underlay soil and levelling the surface. You can do this yourself using our turf preparation guide, or we can quote it as part of the job. Laying on an unprepared base is a common cause of patchy lawns.
How soon after laying can I walk on the new lawn?
While the roots establish, keep foot traffic to a minimum. In warm weather, fresh turf usually starts rooting within about two weeks, and regular watering over the first few weeks is the most important thing you can do. We will give you a watering plan suited to the season on the day we lay.
Is it cheaper to buy turf and lay it myself?
Supply only is cheaper because you are not paying for labour, and many people do it well. Using a turf laying service makes sense when the area is large, access is awkward or you can't lay everything on delivery day. Fresh turf weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre, so it is heavy work.
Which turf varieties can you lay?
We lay everything we grow: Matilda, Sir Walter and Shademaster Soft Leaf Buffalo, Kikuyu, Greenlees Park Couch and Wintergreen Couch. Matilda and Sir Walter cope with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun, while Kikuyu suits sunny yards that need to recover quickly from wear.
What days do you lay turf?
We deliver and lay Monday to Saturday. Because we harvest to order, your laying day is booked at the same time as your harvest, so the turf is cut fresh as close to that day as possible. If heavy rain leaves the ground too wet, we will call you and arrange a new day.
How quickly can I get a quote for a turf laying service?
Send us your measurements, address and a few details about access, or call 1800 044 006. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day, and your quote will show the turf and laying costs clearly so you can compare supply only with a full turf laying service.
