Why Customers Keep Coming Back to Us
What to Look for When You Buy Turf
Not all turf is equal, and neither are the businesses that sell it. Before you order, it is worth asking a few simple questions. Who grew the turf? How long ago was it cut? Can the seller tell you honestly whether a variety will cope with the shade in your yard? Will it turn up on the day you need it, and will someone help if something goes wrong after it is laid?
Reliable supply starts with a grower who controls the product from the paddock to your property. At Associated Turf, we have grown premium natural turf on the rich Hawkesbury River soils at Windsor for over 45 years, and every order is harvested fresh, not pulled from a stockpile. Just as importantly, you get real advice from people who know each variety inside out and can explain the trade-offs in plain English.
- Grown on our own farm, not bought in
- Harvested to order for peak freshness
- Honest advice on the right variety for your site
- Delivery Monday to Saturday or farm pick-up
Matching the Right Turf to Your Yard
It is tempting to choose a lawn by looks alone, but conditions matter more. Sunlight is the first thing to check. Soft-leaf buffalo varieties such as Matilda and Sir Walter perform with around three to four hours of direct sun a day, while Kikuyu and the couch grasses need full sun, ideally six hours or more, to stay thick and healthy.
Next, think about how the lawn will be used. Kids, dogs and backyard cricket call for a hard-wearing variety, while a front lawn might be all about a fine, manicured look. Kikuyu and Greenlees Park Couch handle heavy wear in full sun, while Matilda offers very good wear tolerance in partial shade. Finally, consider how much time you want to spend on maintenance each week. Buffalo grows more slowly than Kikuyu and couch, so it needs less mowing and fertilising. Kikuyu, on the other hand, recovers quickly from wear but spreads into garden beds if the edges are not kept trimmed. Getting these choices right at the start saves time, water and money for years to come.
- Check how many hours of direct sun each area gets
- Think about kids, pets and foot traffic
- Decide how much mowing you are happy to do
A Dependable Source for Landscapers and Builders
Landscapers and builders need a supplier who answers the phone, gives a straight answer on availability and turns up when promised. Because we grow our own product, we can tell you what is ready to harvest and plan cutting around your program, with large orders delivered on pallets to suit your site.
Associated Turf supplies schools, councils, developers, display homes, parks and sporting grounds as well as residential builders and landscape gardeners of every size. For large open areas, our Maxi Turf rolls are 1.2 metres wide by 12 metres long and laid by machine, giving fewer joins and faster establishment. Talk to us about regular orders and project pricing, and let us know early if you have a large or staged job coming up.
- Clear answers on availability and timing
- Pallet deliveries for large orders
- Regular order and project pricing available
The Difference a Grower Makes
A good grower knows that turf is a living product and that freshness matters. Prompt delivery and installation help minimise stress on the grass. The longer it waits, the slower it establishes, which is why freshness should be one of your first questions for any turf supplier you are considering.
Because we harvest to order, your turf is cut as close as possible to delivery. It arrives green, moist and ready to lay the same day, and it roots faster as a result. Every order also comes with advice on soil preparation, laying, watering and ongoing care from a team that grows turf every day. That support does not stop when the truck leaves, so call us if you have questions in the weeks after laying.
- Harvested to order, never stockpiled
- Faster rooting and stronger establishment
- Preparation and aftercare advice included

Questions About Buying Turf
Answers to the questions we hear most. Our team is always happy to help with anything else.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
How do I choose the right turf for my yard?
Start with sunlight. If an area gets around three to four hours of direct sun, a soft-leaf buffalo such as Matilda, Sir Walter or Shademaster is the safest choice. For full sun and heavy wear, Kikuyu or couch may suit better. Then think about traffic, mowing and the look you want, or call us for a recommendation based on your yard. Matilda is our top recommendation for most Sydney homes. Very heavy shade should be assessed before you choose any turf.
How much turf should I order?
Measure the length and width of each lawn area in metres and multiply them to get square metres, then add the areas together. Measure each section separately if your lawn wraps around the house, and leave out garden beds, paths and paved areas. For curved or irregular shapes, break the area into simple rectangles or send us a sketch with measurements and we will help you work out the right quantity so you are not caught short halfway through the job.
Do you sell to homeowners as well as the trade?
Yes. We supply homeowners, landscapers, builders, developers, schools, councils and commercial clients. Every customer gets the same fresh, harvested-to-order turf, the same delivery options and the same friendly advice, whether you need a few rolls for a small backyard or thousands of square metres for a major project. Trade customers can also ask us about regular orders and project pricing.
How much does turf cost?
Pricing depends on the variety, the quantity and your delivery location. Premium soft-leaf buffalo varieties cost more than Kikuyu, which is a cost-effective option for large sunny areas. Laying by our team is quoted separately if you would like it. Request a free quote online or call 1800 044 006 and we will give you clear, obligation-free pricing for your order.
Why does it matter where my turf is grown?
Turf grown nearby spends less time on a truck, and a grower can harvest to suit your delivery day. Buying from a turf supplier that grows its own turf also means you get advice from people who know how each variety performs in local soils, heat and shade, rather than relying on a product description.
Can I pick up turf instead of having it delivered?
Yes. You can collect from our farm on Cornwallis Road, Windsor during trading hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm. Call ahead so we can have your order cut fresh, and check that your vehicle or trailer can carry the load safely. Plan to lay the turf on the same day you collect it. Have your soil prepared and levelled before you arrive at the farm.
