Fresh Turf Delivery Cut to Order at Windsor
Every fresh turf delivery we send leaves our Windsor paddocks on the Hawkesbury River soon after it is cut, never after days in a stockpile. That short gap between harvest and laying is what helps new turf stay green and root quickly.

Why Fresh Turf Delivery Makes the Difference
Turf starts to decline the moment it is cut. Rolled up on a pallet, the grass cannot feed itself, and in warm weather it heats from the inside and turns yellow. That is why a fresh turf delivery matters more than almost anything else you can control. At Associated Turf, nothing is stockpiled. Your order is harvested from our own paddocks for the day you plan to lay, then delivered Monday to Saturday.
We have grown natural turf on the alluvial soils of the Cornwallis Flats for more than 45 years, and the dense, strong-rooted turf they produce travels and establishes well when it is handled quickly.
In short: Associated Turf cuts every order fresh on its Windsor farm and delivers it across the Hawkesbury from Monday to Saturday. Turf usually costs about $9 to $18 per square metre, depending on variety, area, delivery distance and laying. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- Harvested to suit your delivery day
- Six delivery days every week
- Home, building site and commercial drops
- Friendly team who keeps you informed
Fresh Turf for Wisemans Ferry and Bligh Park Homes
Wisemans Ferry and Bligh Park sit at very different distances from our farm, and freshness means something slightly different in each. Bligh Park is close to Windsor, with suburban yards that bake in summer and homeowners who often want to lay first thing on a Saturday. Wisemans Ferry is a much longer trip downriver along winding roads, so every hour between harvest and laying needs careful planning. In both places, turf that has been sitting around before it leaves the farm will struggle once it arrives.
That is why we never stockpile. Your turf is harvested from our paddocks for your delivery day, loaded and sent out, so the time it spends rolled up is as short as we can make it. We will help you get the site ready beforehand, so the rolls can go straight down. Learn more about our wider turf delivery service, or call the farm to book a harvest date.
- Every order harvested for its delivery day
- Trip planning for longer runs downriver
- Preparation advice so turf goes straight down
What Fresh Turf Delivery Includes From Our Farm
Freshness is not a single step. It comes from how the grass is grown, when it is cut, how it travels and how quickly it is laid. Here is what goes into each fresh turf delivery that leaves our farm at Windsor.
- Own paddocks: every roll grown by us, with no resellers
- Cut to order: harvested for your day, never stockpiled
- Rich river soil: dense turf with strong roots from alluvial ground
- Six-day delivery: Monday to Saturday from Windsor
- Pallets for big jobs: bigger orders stacked for quick unloading
- Laying advice: lay on arrival and water as you go
Longer Trips and Tight Timing for Wisemans Ferry
Wisemans Ferry is one of the more distant parts of the Hawkesbury from our farm. The drive follows the river through winding country roads, and on a hot day the rolls on a truck keep warming the whole way. Turf that already spent a day or two in a stockpile before that trip would arrive tired. Turf cut for the delivery has far more life left in it.
Remote properties bring their own timing problems. Many Wisemans Ferry homes are holiday or weekend places, and if nobody is there when the truck arrives, the turf can sit in the sun for hours. Steep driveways and limited turning room can also mean the load has to be set down further from the lawn than you might like.
The answer is planning. We agree a delivery day when you will be on site and ready to lay, talk through where the turf can be placed, and time the harvest to suit. That way the longer drive costs you nothing in freshness.
- Delivery booked for a day you are on site
- Harvest timed for the longer trip
- Set-down spot agreed before the truck leaves
How Much Does Fresh Turf Delivery Cost on the Hawkesbury?
Fresh, farm-direct turf usually costs about $9 to $18 per square metre. Couch and Kikuyu are the lower-cost choices, and soft leaf buffalo is the premium choice. Because we cut to order and sell only our own grass, there is no reseller margin built in. Delivery depends on how far you are from Windsor, so a run to Wisemans Ferry costs more than one to Bligh Park, and larger areas generally earn a lower rate per square metre. Laying is quoted separately.
Tell us your suburb and area, and get a fresh turf quote from our team.
- Variety: soft leaf buffalo sits above Kikuyu and couch
- Area: bigger orders get a lower rate per square metre
- Distance: longer trips from Windsor cost more
- Supply and lay: installation quoted on top
What Happens to Turf After It Is Cut
A roll of turf is a living plant with a thin layer of soil and roots attached. Once it is cut and rolled, it cannot feed itself properly, so it gradually loses vigour, and in hot weather that decline speeds up. That is why fresh turf should be laid on the day it arrives.
Given a good start, freshly cut turf is quick to recover. Laid on prepared ground and watered regularly, it usually starts rooting within about two weeks in warm weather. Fresh turf also carries moisture, which is part of why it typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre.
On the farm side, a harvested paddock needs around 10 to 18 months to regrow. Cutting only what has been ordered protects those paddocks and means no turf is left waiting to be sold.
How We Keep Your Turf Fresh From Harvest to Handover
Keeping turf fresh is about shrinking the gap between the paddock and your soil. These four steps are how we keep that gap as short as possible for every order.
- Agree your lay day. We confirm the day your ground will be ready and someone is on site.
- Cut to order. Your turf is harvested at Windsor close to that delivery, never pulled from a stockpile.
- Load and go. The order is loaded and sent out, on pallets for bigger jobs.
- Lay on arrival. You or our team lay the turf that day and start watering straight away.
Heat, Hard Surfaces and New Fences in Bligh Park
Bligh Park is close to our farm, so travel time is short, but summer heat can still undo a fresh delivery. Suburban yards there are often ringed by paving, driveways and Colorbond fences that reflect heat back onto the lawn area. A pallet left on a hot driveway warms quickly, and the outer rolls can dry along the edges within hours.
Soil is the second challenge. Many backyards have compacted ground from years of foot traffic or old building work, and turf laid on that surface dries out faster than turf with loose soil beneath it. Shade from neighbouring two-storey homes can also leave part of a yard with only a few hours of sun.
We suggest preparing the soil the day before, setting the pallets in shade if you can, and laying the hottest, sunniest areas first. For shaded corners, Matilda and Sir Walter thrive with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun, so the whole yard can stay even.
- Pallets placed in shade where possible
- Soil prepared the day before delivery
- Shade-tolerant buffalo for darker corners

Frequently Asked Questions About Fresh Turf Delivery in the Hawkesbury
Freshness decides how well new turf establishes. Here is what Hawkesbury customers ask us about harvest timing and delivery day.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
How fresh is your fresh turf delivery?
Every fresh turf delivery we send is harvested from our own Windsor paddocks for that order. We never stockpile turf, so your grass has not been sitting on pallets waiting for a buyer. It is cut, loaded and delivered Monday to Saturday, ready to lay on the day it arrives.
Why does stockpiled turf struggle?
Once turf is cut and rolled, it cannot feed itself properly. Left on a pallet, especially in warm weather, it heats up, yellows and loses vigour. Turf harvested for your delivery day has much more life in it, so it stays greener and roots faster.
What if I can't lay all the turf on delivery day?
Fresh turf needs to go down on the day it arrives, particularly when it is hot. If you think you will run short of time, talk to us before booking. We can help you split a large job into sections, or arrange for our own team to lay it with you.
Do you deliver fresh turf to Wisemans Ferry?
Yes, we deliver across the Hawkesbury, including more distant areas like Wisemans Ferry. Delivery is priced on distance from Windsor. We will book a day when you are on site and ready, and time the harvest so your turf arrives as fresh as possible.
How soon will fresh turf start rooting?
In the warmer months, fresh turf normally starts to root in about two weeks. That depends on laying it the day it arrives, onto loosened, levelled soil with underlay, and watering regularly for the first few weeks. Turf that waited in a stockpile tends to take longer.
Can I collect fresh turf from the farm?
Yes. Farm pick-up runs Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm. Call ahead so we can cut your order fresh. Bring a vehicle that can carry the weight, since fresh turf typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre.
Does weather affect fresh turf delivery dates?
Sometimes. When our river flat paddocks are waterlogged, we cannot cut clean rolls, so a harvest may need to move. If rain could affect your fresh turf delivery, we will let you know early and agree on a new day that still suits your preparation.
