Lawn Grass Delivery That Starts with the Right Variety
The grass you choose decides how your lawn handles shade, frost, dogs and dry spells for years to come. A Kikuyu that thrives in an open, sunny paddock can thin out beside a tall fence, while a fine couch that looks superb on a sports field may need more care than a busy family wants to give.
That is why every order with us begins with a conversation about your yard. We grow Matilda, Sir Walter and Shademaster soft leaf buffalo, Kikuyu, Greenlees Park Couch and Wintergreen Couch on our own paddocks at Windsor, so we can explain how each one actually performs before we cut and deliver it.
In short: Associated Turf grows six lawn grasses at Windsor and delivers them across the Hawkesbury. Prices run from about $9 to $18 per m², with Kikuyu and couch cheapest and buffalo highest, plus area, distance and laying. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- A finished look from the day it is laid
- Dense, mature grass with roots attached
- Less dust, mud and erosion on new sites
- Usable far sooner than a seeded lawn
Your Local Lawn Grass Team in Wilberforce and Hobartville
Wilberforce and Hobartville sit only a short drive apart, yet their yards can need quite different grasses. Out toward Wilberforce, larger open blocks often get sun from dawn to dusk and cold, frosty starts in winter. In the older streets of Hobartville, established trees, carports and neighbouring homes leave many lawns with patchy light. Choosing one grass for every yard in the district simply doesn’t work, and the wrong pick shows up within a season.
We treat variety selection as the most important part of your order. Tell us how many hours of direct sun each area gets, who uses the lawn and how much time you want to spend on it, and we will recommend the grass that suits. Your rolls are then cut fresh at our Windsor farm and delivered on your chosen day, with laying by our own team available if you want it. Learn how our grass delivery service works from booking to drop-off.
- Honest advice on which grass suits each area
- Six varieties grown on our own paddocks
- Delivered fresh on the day you choose
Which Lawn Grasses You Can Have Delivered
Each of our lawn grasses has its own strengths. Some are built for shade, some for heavy wear and some for a fine, manicured finish. This quick summary shows what each one is best at, so you can narrow down your choice before we talk.
- Matilda Soft Leaf Buffalo: Australian-bred, thrives on 3 to 4 hours of direct sun
- Sir Walter Soft Leaf Buffalo: soft underfoot and suited to part-shaded yards
- Shademaster Soft Leaf Buffalo: up to 85% shade tolerant for the darkest spots
- Kikuyu: hardy, full-sun and fast to repair after wear
- Greenlees Park Couch: premium hard-wearing fine-leaf couch
- Wintergreen Couch: dense fine-leaf couch proven on stadiums and golf courses
Winter Frost and Open Sun on Wilberforce Blocks
Wilberforce yards often face two extremes in the same year. Summer brings long days of full sun with little shelter, which suits Kikuyu and couch well. Both handle heat and recover quickly from wear, and Kikuyu in particular is a good fit for big, open areas used by kids, dogs or vehicles.
Winter tells a different story. Cold air settles over low ground near the river, and frosty mornings can turn couch and Kikuyu dormant and straw-coloured for several months. Many people are fine with that, as the lawn greens up again in spring. Others want colour all year, and soft leaf buffalo holds its colour better through the cooler months.
Size matters too. On acreage, a lawn of any variety becomes a large order, and fresh rolls need to be laid on the day they arrive. We help you decide whether to lay in stages or book our team, and for very large open areas we can supply Maxi Turf rolls laid by machine.
- Kikuyu or couch for tough, sunny areas
- Soft leaf buffalo for better winter colour
- Staged deliveries or Maxi Turf for acreage
How Much Does Lawn Grass Delivery Cost by Variety?
Your choice of grass has the biggest effect on price. Buying direct from our farm, most turf costs about $9 to $18 per square metre. Kikuyu and the couches are at the lower end, and the soft leaf buffalos are at the top. After variety, the size of your area matters, since larger orders usually attract a lower rate per square metre, followed by delivery distance from Windsor. Laying is quoted on top if you want it.
For a side-by-side price on two or three varieties, ask our team for a quote.
- Variety: the biggest single factor in price
- Area: larger lawns get a lower rate per m²
- Distance: delivery from Windsor to your address
- Installation: supply only, or supply and lay
Buffalo, Kikuyu and Couch: How They Differ
The three grass families we grow suit different jobs. Soft leaf buffalo has broad, soft leaves and is the most forgiving in shade. Both Matilda and Sir Walter thrive on as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun, and Shademaster goes further, tolerating up to 85% shade. Buffalo also holds its colour better in frosty winters.
Kikuyu is hardy, loves full sun and repairs itself quickly, which makes it a practical choice for high-wear family yards and larger blocks. The couches have a finer leaf and a denser surface. For couch, Greenlees Park offers a premium hard-wearing fine leaf, and Wintergreen is a dense fine-leaf variety proven on stadiums and golf courses. Couch and Kikuyu can go dormant and straw-coloured in frosty weather, then green up again once it warms.
How Associated Turf Helps You Choose and Deliver Lawn Grass
Choosing a grass is easier when you can talk to the people who grow it. Our ordering process puts that advice first, then gets your chosen variety to you fresh.
- Describe your yard. Tell us about sun hours, shade, soil, pets and how the lawn is used.
- Get a recommendation. We suggest one or two varieties and explain the trade-offs in plain language.
- Confirm and schedule. We price your chosen grass and book a delivery day from Monday to Saturday.
- Harvest and deliver. Your variety is cut fresh at Windsor and delivered ready to lay that day.
Shade from Mature Trees in Hobartville Yards
Many Hobartville homes have been there long enough for their gardens to grow up around them. Large trees that once gave a little afternoon shade can now cover half the backyard, and the lawn underneath slowly thins out. Sun-hungry grasses such as Kikuyu and couch tend to struggle in those conditions, leaving bare soil and moss behind.
Tree roots add to the problem. They compete with the lawn for water and nutrients, so grass near a big trunk often dries out faster than the rest of the yard. Extra underlay soil and regular watering in the first few weeks help new turf establish in those spots.
A soft leaf buffalo is usually the answer. Matilda and Sir Walter need as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun, and Shademaster is up to 85% shade tolerant. Many owners use buffalo under the trees and a tougher full-sun grass in open areas. Our turf varieties page compares them in more detail.
- Shademaster for the darkest corners
- Extra underlay soil near tree roots
- Mix varieties for sunny and shaded areas

Frequently Asked Questions About Lawn Grass Delivery in the Hawkesbury
Not sure which grass to order? These answers help you narrow down your choice before you ask for a quote.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
Which grass is best for lawn grass delivery to a shady yard?
For shade, choose a soft leaf buffalo. Shademaster is the pick for deep shade at up to 85% tolerance, with Matilda and Sir Walter thriving on as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun. Tell us about your light when you book your lawn grass delivery and we will recommend the best fit.
What is the toughest lawn grass for kids and dogs?
Kikuyu is hardy and fast-repairing, so it bounces back from heavy use in full sun. Greenlees Park Couch is another hard-wearing option with a finer leaf. In shaded yards, a soft leaf buffalo is a better balance of comfort and durability.
Which lawn grass stays green in winter?
Soft leaf buffalo keeps its colour better when winters turn frosty. Couch and Kikuyu can go dormant and straw-coloured when frosts arrive, then green up again in spring. If year-round colour is a priority, buffalo is the safest choice.
Can I order two varieties in one lawn grass delivery?
Yes. Plenty of customers use a shade-tolerant buffalo under trees and a full-sun grass such as Kikuyu in open areas. We can cut both for the same lawn grass delivery, as long as you give us measurements for each area.
Is couch or Kikuyu cheaper than buffalo?
Generally, yes. Kikuyu and couch sit at the lower end of our $9 to $18 per square metre range, while soft leaf buffalo is at the top. Order size, delivery distance and whether you want laying also affect the final price.
What makes Wintergreen Couch different?
Wintergreen is a dense fine-leaf couch proven on stadiums and golf courses. It suits sunny areas where you want a fine, even surface. Like other couches, it can go straw-coloured in frosty winters before greening up again in the warmer months.
Can someone help me compare varieties before I order?
Yes. Call 1800 044 006 and our team will weigh up the varieties with you based on sun, soil and how the yard is used. If you prefer to collect, pick-up at Cornwallis Road, Windsor runs Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm.
