How Turf Delivery Reaches Sydney From Our Farm
Most Sydney homeowners never see where their lawn was grown. Ours comes from the Cornwallis Flats at Windsor, on the north-western edge of the city, where Associated Turf has grown natural turf for more than 45 years. Every order is cut from our own paddocks for the day it is booked, then trucked into the suburbs, with no reseller yard in between.
That direct route matters in a city this spread out. A delivery to the Hills is a short run, while a trip to the North Shore takes longer, so we plan each harvest around your location and lay day. Delivery runs Monday to Saturday, and bigger orders arrive on pallets.
In short: Associated Turf grows turf at Windsor and delivers it across Sydney from Monday to Saturday. Most farm-direct turf costs about $9 to $18 per square metre, with the final price shaped by variety, area, distance from the farm and laying. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- Harvested to suit your delivery day
- Six delivery days every week
- Home, building site and commercial drops
- Friendly team who keeps you informed
Your Local Turf Delivery Team in Castle Hill, Kellyville and the Upper North Shore
Castle Hill and Kellyville are among the closest parts of Sydney to our farm, and they keep us busy. New estates in Kellyville need whole lawns from scratch, while established Castle Hill homes often want a tired backyard replaced. Further east, the Upper North Shore brings larger, leafier blocks, steep driveways and big trees, where getting the right turf to the right spot takes more planning than in a flat new subdivision. A delivery that works for one of these areas will not automatically suit the other.
We handle every Sydney order as a direct farm-to-door run. Our team helps you choose a variety, confirms your measurements and books a delivery day from Monday to Saturday, then cuts your turf at Windsor for that trip. You can lay it yourself or have our crew do the job, and we will flag anything about access that needs sorting before the truck arrives. Read more about how our turf delivery works, or call 1800 044 006 to book.
- Short runs to the Hills from our Windsor farm
- Delivery planning for steep North Shore blocks
- Supply only or supply and lay by our team
What Your Sydney Turf Delivery Can Include
Whether it is a courtyard in Turramurra or a new estate backyard in Kellyville, a Sydney order from our farm can be shaped to fit the job. These are the options we most often put together for city customers.
- Variety choice: buffalo, Kikuyu and couch, all grown at Windsor
- Harvest to order: cut for your delivery day, never stockpiled
- Six days a week: delivery Monday to Saturday
- Pallet delivery: bigger orders stacked for easier unloading
- Installation: our own team can lay the turf
- Trade supply: project pricing and staged harvests for builders
Compacted Clay on New Estates in Castle Hill and Kellyville
Kellyville and the newer pockets of Castle Hill have grown quickly, and many of those homes were handed over with very little usable topsoil. During construction, heavy machinery compacts the clay subsoil into a hard layer that sheds water. Turf laid straight onto that surface tends to dry out at the edges, brown off in its first summer and lift where the roots never got down.
Estate yards are also small and closely built. Two-storey neighbours and high boundary fences can leave half a backyard in shade for much of the day, and access is often a narrow side path between the house and the fence, which makes carrying heavy rolls slow work.
Before your delivery, we recommend breaking up the compacted clay, adding a quality underlay soil and levelling the area. For shaded sections, Matilda and Sir Walter thrive with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun. Tell us about the side access too, so we can plan where the pallets will go.
- Break up compacted estate clay before laying
- Shade-tolerant buffalo for narrow, built-up yards
- Pallet placement planned around side access
How Much Does Turf Delivery Cost Across Sydney?
Most turf ordered direct from our paddocks works out at about $9 to $18 per square metre. Couch and Kikuyu are priced at the lower end, and soft leaf buffalo at the upper end. For Sydney orders, distance from our Windsor farm makes a noticeable difference, so a delivery to Kellyville usually costs less than one to the Upper North Shore. Larger areas earn a lower rate per square metre, and laying is quoted on top based on area, preparation and access.
Send us your suburb and measurements, and request a Sydney delivery quote from the farm.
- Variety: soft leaf buffalo costs more than Kikuyu or couch
- Order size: bigger lawns attract a lower rate per square metre
- Distance: how far your suburb is from Windsor
- Access and laying: steep or narrow sites affect installation
What to Know About Bringing Farm Turf Into the City
Turf is grown in large paddocks, not in the suburbs, so every lawn in the city has travelled to get there. Ours is grown on the alluvial soils of the Cornwallis Flats beside the Hawkesbury River, which produce dense turf with strong roots that handles the trip well when it is cut fresh.
Fresh turf typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre, depending on moisture, so even a modest suburban lawn adds up to a heavy load. Lay it the same day it arrives, especially when the weather is hot. In the warmer months it generally begins rooting within about two weeks. For large open areas such as school grounds or parks, Maxi Turf rolls measuring 1.2 m by 12 m are laid by machine, with fewer joins and faster establishment.

How We Handle Turf Delivery Into Sydney
Sydney deliveries need a little more planning than a run down the road from the farm, so we follow the same four steps every time. That keeps the harvest, the trip and your laying in step.
- Share your suburb and area. We check measurements, access and the best variety for your yard.
- Book the day. We confirm the price and a delivery day from Monday to Saturday.
- Harvest at Windsor. Your turf is cut on our farm for that run into the city.
- Deliver and lay. The turf is set down as close to the job as access allows, ready to lay.
Big Trees and Steep Blocks on the Upper North Shore
The Upper North Shore is known for its tall eucalypts, established gardens and hilly streets, and each of those works against a new lawn. Heavy canopy shade means many yards get only a few hours of direct sun, and tree roots compete hard for moisture. Sun-loving grasses thin out quickly in those conditions, leaving bare patches under the trees.
Slopes add a practical challenge. Steep driveways and terraced gardens make it hard to set pallets down near the lawn, and turf on a slope dries out faster at the top than at the bottom. Older blocks can also have narrow side access or stairs that every roll has to be carried up.
We plan these deliveries carefully. Shademaster is up to 85% shade tolerant, and Matilda and Sir Walter suit areas with 3 to 4 hours of sun, so we match the variety to each part of the garden. We also talk through where the turf can be dropped and whether our team should lay it.
- Shademaster for heavy canopy shade
- Drop point agreed for steep driveways
- Option for our team to lay sloping sites

Frequently Asked Questions About Turf Delivery in Sydney
Buying turf from a farm beyond the city brings up a few practical questions. Here are clear answers for Sydney homeowners and landscapers.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
Do you offer turf delivery Sydney-wide?
Yes. Our turf delivery Sydney service runs Monday to Saturday from our farm at Windsor on the city's north-western edge. Every order is cut fresh from our own paddocks for its delivery day. Prices vary with distance, so suburbs closer to the farm usually cost less to deliver to.
How far is your farm from the Hills District?
Our farm is on Cornwallis Road at Windsor, so suburbs such as Castle Hill and Kellyville are a relatively short run. That helps keep both delivery costs and travel time down. Tell us your suburb when you request a quote and we will include delivery in the price.
Can you deliver to a steep or hard-to-reach block?
Usually, yes. Let us know about steep driveways, stairs, narrow side paths and overhead wires before delivery day. We will agree on the best place to set the turf down, and if carrying rolls would be difficult, our own team can lay the lawn for you.
Which grass suits a shady Sydney garden?
For heavy shade under large trees, Shademaster Soft Leaf Buffalo is up to 85% shade tolerant. Just 3 to 4 hours of direct sun is enough for Matilda and Sir Walter to do well. Kikuyu and couch prefer full sun, so they suit open yards better.
Do you supply builders and landscapers in Sydney?
Yes. We supply landscapers, builders, developers, schools and councils as well as homeowners. Trade customers can ask about project pricing, and we can stage harvests across a multi-month build so each stage of turf delivery in Sydney arrives fresh.
How much turf fits in a typical suburban order?
That depends entirely on your measurements. As a guide to weight, fresh turf typically weighs 15 to 25 kg per square metre, so even a small yard is a heavy load. Bigger orders arrive on pallets. Send us your area and we will confirm the quantity.
What happens if it rains before my Sydney delivery?
Heavy rain can stop us harvesting cleanly on our river flat paddocks and can leave your site too wet to lay. If the weather looks likely to affect your turf delivery in Sydney, we will contact you early and agree on a new day.
