What Customers Say About Our Team
Working with Turf Laying Contractors Who Grow the Turf
On a building or civil project, turf is usually one of the last trades on site, which means it often gets squeezed when earlier stages run late. Working with turf laying contractors who also grow the product removes one of the biggest risks: turf arriving before the ground is ready, or sitting on pallets while the program shifts.
More than 45 years of growing natural turf on the Cornwallis Flats at Windsor sits behind Associated Turf. Because the paddocks are ours, we can cut to your confirmed laying date, adjust when the site moves, and stage harvests across builds that run for several months. Builders, developers, schools and councils get trade pricing and a single contact for supply and laying.
In short: Associated Turf is a Windsor turf grower that also supplies and lays turf on Hawkesbury building and landscape projects. Pricing depends on variety, total area, distance, preparation and access, with turf around $9 to $18 per m² and laying quoted on top. We usually reply to quote requests within one business day.
- One quote for turf, delivery and laying
- Harvest timed to your laying day
- A single point of contact from start to finish
- Watering and first mow advice when the job is done
Turf Laying Contractors for Bligh Park and Vineyard Projects
Vineyard is one of the fastest-changing parts of the Hawkesbury, with new streets, house-and-land packages and display homes appearing on what was once rural land. Each finished home needs turf, often on a tight handover date set by the builder. Bligh Park is the opposite: an established suburb where the work is more likely to be front-yard renewals, rental and strata refreshes, and landscaping upgrades that need to be finished neatly around existing driveways and gardens.
Both types of job need a contractor who turns up on the agreed day with turf that is fresh and the right quantity. We confirm measurements from plans or on site, lock in a harvest date that matches your program and send our own crew to lay. For multi-lot or multi-stage work we can split harvests across weeks or months so every stage gets fresh turf. See how our turf laying service works from harvest through to handover.
- Harvest dates locked to your build program
- Staged supply for multi-lot developments
- One crew and one contact across all stages
What a Turf Laying Contract Can Cover
Every project scope is different, so we quote only what you need. Some builders want supply and lay only, with their own team preparing the ground. Others want the turf package handled end to end. These are the items we can include in a contract.
- Take-offs: areas measured from plans or confirmed on site
- Variety specification: matched to use, shade and maintenance budget
- Staged harvests: turf cut for each stage as it becomes ready
- Pallet delivery: Monday to Saturday from our Windsor farm
- Hand or machine laying: standard rolls or Maxi Turf for open areas
- Handover notes: watering guidance for the owner or site manager
Compacted Building Sites Across the Vineyard Release Area
New estates in Vineyard bring a predictable set of problems for turf. Earthworks and heavy machinery compact the ground, and by the time landscaping starts the surface can be as hard as a road base. Topsoil is often stripped during civil works, leaving clay or fill that sheds water instead of soaking it in. Turf laid straight onto that base rarely roots well.
Timing is the second issue. On a busy estate, the turf crew may be one of several trades on site in the same week, with fencing, driveways and letterboxes going in around them. If laying happens before those trades finish, the new lawn gets driven over or covered in concrete slurry.
We deal with both by agreeing a clear handover point for the ground before booking the harvest. Where we are preparing the base, we loosen the compacted soil, add underlay soil and level it. Where another trade prepares it, we check it on arrival and raise any issues before laying.
- Clear ground handover before harvest is booked
- Loosening and underlay soil for compacted lots
- Laying sequenced after hard trades finish
How Much Do Turf Laying Contractors Charge for Project Work?
Project pricing follows the same guide we use for every order, adjusted for volume. Most of our turf costs about $9 to $18 per square metre, and variety sets where you land, with Kikuyu and couch low and soft leaf buffalo high. Our laying price is quoted on top, and it reflects the area, the site preparation and access. Larger orders attract a lower rate per square metre, and we offer trade and project pricing for repeat customers.
Send us your plans or schedule for a project quote.
- Total area: bigger orders reduce the rate per m²
- Variety: buffalo specifications cost more than couch or Kikuyu
- Supply only or supply and lay: labour is priced separately
- Site access: machine access can speed up large areas
Planning Turf Logistics on a Building Program
Turf is a perishable material, and it behaves differently from bricks or pavers on a site. It is cut to order, never stockpiled, and should be laid on the day it arrives, especially in hot weather. That means the laying date needs to be firm before we harvest.
Weight matters for site planning too. Fresh turf typically weighs around 15 to 25 kg per square metre depending on moisture, so pallet placement and access for unloading should be thought through early.
Supply planning is the final piece. A harvested paddock typically needs around 10 to 18 months to regrow, so on very large or long-running projects we plan which paddocks will supply each stage well ahead. That is one reason we can stage harvests reliably across multi-month builds.
How Associated Turf Runs a Laying Contract
Contract work needs clear steps and reliable dates. This is how we take a project from first enquiry to handover, whether it is a single display home or a staged estate.
- Scope and quote. We review plans or measure on site, confirm variety and provide a project price.
- Schedule harvests. Laying dates are matched to your program, with stages booked separately where needed.
- Check and lay. Our crew checks the prepared ground, lays the turf and trims to hard edges.
- Water and hand over. We give the first soak and provide watering notes for the owner or site team.
Renewals and Tight Finishes Around Bligh Park Homes
Contract work in Bligh Park looks quite different from a greenfield estate. Many homes date back several decades, and lawn renewals for owners, property managers and strata committees often happen around existing driveways, garden edges and paths that must stay intact. The old lawn usually has to be removed first, and years of foot traffic can leave the soil underneath compacted and uneven.
Shade is another common factor. Mature trees and neighbouring homes cast more shade than on a new estate, and a variety chosen for full sun can thin out within a season. Matilda and Sir Walter thrive with as little as 3 to 4 hours of direct sun, while Shademaster is up to 85% shade tolerant, which gives us options for darker yards.
Finally, tenanted or occupied homes need the job done in a single visit with minimal mess. We plan the removal, preparation and laying so the property is left tidy.
- Old lawn removal and base renewal
- Shade-tolerant varieties for mature yards
- Tidy one-visit finishes for occupied homes

Frequently Asked Questions About Turf Laying Contractors in the Hawkesbury
Builders, developers and property managers often ask the same practical questions before booking a turf contract. Here are our answers.
Our turf specialists are happy to help.
Why use turf laying contractors who grow their own turf?
Turf laying contractors who grow their own turf can cut to your exact laying date and adjust when the program shifts. There is no waiting on a separate supplier and no stockpiled turf drying out on site. You also get one contact responsible for both quality and installation.
Can harvests be staged over the course of a long build?
Yes. We regularly split supply across stages on multi-month projects, cutting fresh turf for each stage as the ground becomes ready. Let us know your program early so we can plan which paddocks will supply each stage, as a harvested paddock typically needs 10 to 18 months to regrow.
Do you offer trade or project pricing?
We do. Builders, landscapers, developers, schools and councils can ask for trade or project pricing. Larger areas attract a lower rate per square metre, and repeat customers benefit from consistent pricing across jobs. Send us your plans or quantities and we will put together a quote.
Who prepares the ground on a building site?
Either party can. Some builders prefer their own team to prepare the base, while others include preparation in our scope. The ground must be loosened, topped with underlay soil and levelled before laying. If another trade prepares it, our crew checks it on arrival before any turf goes down.
What happens if the site isn't ready on the laying day?
Call us as soon as you know. Because we harvest to order, we can usually move the cut to a new date before the turf leaves the farm. Once turf is harvested, it needs to be laid that day, so early notice protects both the product and your budget.
Do you lay Maxi Turf on sports fields and parks?
Yes. Maxi Turf rolls are 1.2 m wide by 12 m long and laid by machine, which means fewer joins and faster establishment. They suit ovals, parks, sporting fields, schools and acreage where there is easy machine access for our equipment.
How fast do turf laying contractors at Associated Turf respond to quote requests?
We usually reply to quote requests within one business day. Send your plans, quantities, preferred variety and program dates, or call 1800 044 006 to talk through the scope. Our team will confirm pricing for supply only or supply and lay.
